1. Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam

Things to do with kids in Ho Chi Minh range from theme parks to outdoor activities, to traditional performances. There are parks, cafes, shopping malls and many family-friendly places, but the most unique thing to do in Ho Chi Minh is to watch the water puppet show. Kids will enjoy the colourful puppets and water splashing from the show. Moreover, the street food in Ho Chi Minh are some of the best in the world. The peppers in Vietnam cuisine are optional so you need not worry about spicy food. This is a great time to take your family to enjoy Vietnam’s delicacies in restaurants or at street food stalls.

Although there are many water parks such as the Suoi Tien Theme Park, if your kids are adventurous and not afraid of the dark, you can try visiting the Cu Chi Tunnels. You can learn about the tunnels people fought in during the Vietnam, the clever traps they devised and the tactics that helped them to survive. If you prefer going to indoor places, there are also large play centres such as the BeeBee Activity Centre or Tini World. With such wide range of activities, Ho Chi Minh city will be the perfect weekend getaway for you and your family.

2. Hong Kong

Many people seldom consider visiting Hong Kong with the kids but there are actually quite a few kid-friendly activities there! Other than visiting the two most popular theme parks in Hong Kong – Disneyland and Ocean Park, for those who love walking or going on easy hikes, The Big Buddha and Lamma Island are perfect destinations – Lamma Island has six thousand years of fishing history and is great for enjoying seafood and fantastic views.

There are also fun museums such as the Hong Kong Science Museum and Museum of History or Heritage Museum. The Science Museum has interactive exhibitions that keep children entertained, and the Museum of History has boats to climb on and even stuffed animals to hide in! There are lots of dining options at the Star Ferry, where you can do dolphin watching or swimming in outdoor pools or beaches. Hong Kong is definitely an entertaining and culturally fascinating city for a family visit. 

3. Taiwan

There’s more to Taiwan than shopping and eating! Taiwan has many national parks, hot springs and museums. The convenient transportation and family-friendly places are great reasons for you to travel to Taiwan with your family. If you are looking for outdoor activities with your kids, visiting the Taipei Zoo and Maokung Gondola near the zoo is a great choice. There are also many parks like the Daan Forest Park that are perfect for picnics. Tamsui is another place for the family to spend a whole day at, and the delicious food and fantastic views available at Tamsui makes it a popular spot for families to visit.

If the weather is unfavourable, there are several indoor activities in Taiwan too. Other than the famous Taipei 101, there are department stores, museums and fancy cafes where you can spend afternoons at. The National Taiwan Museum has things like huge skeletons which serves as an entertainment value for young kids, and grab a bite at family friendly cafes such as Mr. Tree Station, Money Jump and Galilei Brunch, where there are play areas in the restaurants including sandboxes, ball pits and lots of toys.

4. Cruises

Cruising at the sea is another great way to spend your holidays with your family. They are a great fun for all ages and onboard serves great food, facilities and different kinds of activities. The Genting Dream is a cruise with rock climbing, water slides, and ropes courses. Sportsplex in this cruise includes all kinds of ball game facilities and even a glow-in-the-dark bowling alley. If you want your kids to participate in something more educational,  scientific exploration activities are available for your kids in The Premium cruise line, Princess Cruises, where kids learn through play with activities such as roller coaster building, chemistry experiments, and even squid dissection.

If your kids are really into characters from Dreamworks, then the Royal Caribbean might be the perfect cruise for your family. Other than the 22,000 square feet kids’ area, Royal Caribbean has shows and performances for each and every family member to enjoy. Royal Caribbean’s Adventure Ocean Youth programme looks after children aged six months and above until past 10pm, so if you need some couple time, this is a viable option. Cruising is another unique experience for the family.

5. Kluang, Johor

What better than a vacation destination that is just a drive away?  If you are looking for a place to explore nature and animals with your kids, Johor’s eco farms might just be right for you. Kahang Organic Rice Eco Farm Resort is an eco farm in Johor (one of the few) with a variety of outdoor activities such as bamboo rafting and feeding of farm animals. You can stay in Floating Chalets and enjoy the great view of lakes and fields.

There are many other farms to enjoy, such as the UK Agro farm with almost 4,000 sheeps and baby goats to feed! The kids may find some fun in running around trying to catch sheeps in an enclosure, or enjoy DIY kite-making.

Another farm on the list is The Zenxin Organic Farm that is a place to learn about how vegetables and fruits are grown. Zenxin is Malaysia’s leading producer in organic food, so if you wish for an exciting yet educational trip, they have tours which may just do the trick!
